It was not a comment on the human. But there's a special something about this series that has endured- as evidenced by the legions of fans that are still growing in numbers.Space: 1999 was nothing more than an entertaining TELEVISION SHOW made for ENTERTAINMENT and to make the producers MONEY. Now, it is by no means the greatest sci-fi show there ever was. I grew up watching Space:1999 and I still like it. Helena, John and Alan travel back in time. I believe that's why classic sci-fi and Space:1999 in particular has endured despite it's sometimes impossible stories. Some of it is cold and well, too technical for ordinary people to relate to it. It aired long after Star Trek: TOS and well before Star War s and was the most expensive sci-fi show of it's time on television.Modern day sci-fi has lost it's sense of wonder, I believe. The series was produced by Gerry Anderson ( of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet fame) and starred Martin Landau and Barbara Bain (Mission:Impossible). The two year series dealt with the inhabitants of the moonbase trying to cope and survive in the strange, mysteriousness of space. On September 13th of that year, a series of nuclear explosions on the far side of the moon propelled it out of orbit and off into deep space.
